WoW Leatherworking – Gear Up & Trade!

As one of the crafting profession in the World of Warcraft, Leatherworking can be used to create a variety of great items. At first you will focus on creating Leather Armor but you should know that Leatherworking is more than that.

You probably know that you are going to need loads of leather for the Leatherworking profession. This is why the Skinning profession along with it is a good idea because you will be able to gather all the materials yourself.

While you skill up you will be given a choice to specialize into making different types of items including Mail Armor, we will discuss this later on though.

Next to the armor you can make you can also make useful and profitable items like leather bags. Besides this you can also craft armor kits that can be used to improve some items or can be sold as well. A Leatherworker can also create Leg Armors which are great because you can apply these on the armor you wear to make it stronger.

What’s nice about a Leatherworker is that he or she can also create Leg Armors which are soulbound and can only be applied on the Leatherworker’s own gear. These special Leg Armors are of course of a better quality than the Leg Armors that can be traded. Besides these Leg Armors one can also craft Fur Linings that can be applied on the Leatherworker’s bracers in order to improve these heavily.

A Leatherworker can make different kinds of Fur Linings and basically a Fur Lining can be made for different purposes like improving the spellcasting, tanking or dps capabilities of the Leatherworker.

As you reach the higher levels of the Leatherworking profession you can specialize yourself in specific branches of Leatherworking:

  • Dragonscale Leatherworking. Leather is not the only type of armor you can make with Leatherworking. If a Leatherworker chooses Dragonscale Leatherworking he or she will be able to craft Mail Armor. Hunters and Shamans will benefit from this because they can use this type of armor.
  • Elemental Leatherworking. This type of Leatherworking has been designed for players who wear leather and have taken the Leatherworking profession. If you choose this type of Leatherworking you will be able to create armor specially designed for casters.
  • Tribal Leatherworking. Feral Druids and Rogues are the type of characters that will benefit from this branch. This type of Leatherworking will allow Leatherworkers to create items that will improve their melee damage and tanking capabilities.

Being able to specialize yourself in particular parts of Leatherworking is great because you can then fulfill the needs of your character better. If you specialize yourself in one branch you can still craft many good items that are available to all three types of Leatherworkers.

Leatherworking is great for any class that has to depend on Leather and Mail armor like Shamans, Hunters, Druids and Rogues. Because Leatherworkers can craft several items that many players need it can also be a profitable profession.

Besides the bags and armor kits etc. you can also create a variety of epic and rare items that can be sold on the Auction House. Since a Leatherworker also has the advantage of being able to make Fur Linings and Kits for his or her own armor you can say that you can benefit a lot from taking up this profession.

WoW Engineering – Crazy Inventors and Junk Keepers

When it comes to fun professions in WoW, Engineering is the word. Engineers have a task to combine and create various parts in order to produce various useful items and even junk. They can craft different types of bombs, guns and bullets, head armor pieces, crazy pets, repair bots, ground vehicles and even flying vehicles!

A lot of players choos to level up Engineering not only because it’s fun but also because of some special items like a Flying Machine, which is a fantastic flying mount. An Engineer needs to have his skill on 300 so he can pick up schematics from Niobe Whizzlespark (Shadowmoon Valley) that will teach him how to craft this mount.

Is Engineering difficult to level up?

You need to understand that Engineering differs from all other professions. It requires a lot of time but at the end it will definitely be worth it. Mining as a profession helps greatly when it comes to fast leveling of Engineering simply because Engineering requires metal products. If you do not want to take Mining as your second profession it will be possible to skillup Engineering but with a lot gold spent on the Auction House.

What useful items can I make?

Engineers are famous for their items and creativity and are also known for their junk! However, many items Engineers can craft are really useful and can help greatly in some situations.

The most famous Engineering products that made a mark in WoW’s history are a Field Repair Bot as well as the Goblin Jumper Cables. The Repair Bots have proved to be very useful in instances and raids where all the players can repair after wipe and continue without the need to run out and repair somewhere else. Repair Bot has a purpose to speed up raids and make raiding more convenient for all players.

Goblin Jumper Cables are usually used by Hunters or Rogues. When a raid group wipes on a boss fight, for example, a Hunter can feign death (Rogue can go stealth) and then make an attempt to resurrect a fallen healer who can then rez the whole group. This is also a time savior and a very convenient invention.

Engineers are also known for their epic goggles – a head piece that looks great and has really good stats.

Specs for Engineers

An Engineer, similar to a Blacksmith or a Tailor, can specialize in different fields of his profession. When you reach skill of 200 you will be given a choice of specialization. You can choose either Goblin or Gnomish type of Engineering. These two specs differ in the teleporters location and in trinket abilities. Gnomish Engineers can use Transporter – Gadgetzan & Transporter – Toshley’s Station while Goblin Engineers can use Dimensional Ripper – Everlook & Dimensional Ripper – Area 52.

WOTLK and Engineering

The latest WOTLK expansion resulted in a positive change when it comes to all professions. For Engineers this expansion gave the possibility to create motorcycles! Alliance players can make their motorcycles with The Mekgineer’s Chopper schematic while Horde players can make it with Mechano-hog schematic. As you can guess, collecting all mats for this amazing vehicle is time taking and pricy but still this motorcycle definitely looks cool and belongs to fast mounts.

Engineers and their pets

Engineers can craft many crazy gadgets but pets are surely their most fun creations. An Engineer can create two “BoP” pets Lil’ Smoky which leaves a smoke trace wherever he goes and Pet Bombling which, of course, is a bomb alike pet. Both recipes drop in Gnomeregan, a low level instance found in Dun Morogh.

Death Knight Leveling Build for WoW

The Death Knight is the newest addition to World of Warcraft, and has since undergone many changes. Initially, the ideal Death Knight Leveling Build was the Blood Tree, while Frost Death Knights were tanks. Now, however, Blood is the tanking tree, while Frost and Unholy are the DPS specs. However, if you are looking at a Death Knight Leveling Build, I would strongly suggest the Unholy tree, for a number of reasons.

Speed – Even before you get Unholy Presence, you can spec into Improved Unholy Presence to receive the constant 15% movement speed increase. Since the majority of time questing is actually travel, you will definitely benefit from this over any of the other specs. Frost’s talent, “On a Pale Horse” is a great talent for movement speed as well, but only affects mounted movement speed, while Unholy Presence buffs movement speed at all time.

DPS – OK, both Frost and Unholy specs have great high end DPS. However, with an Unholy Death Knight Leveling Build, you have more consistent DPS. Frost Death Knights rely on procs and burst damage, while Unholy is consistently powerful. A Frost DK can easily down a mob in 3-4 seconds or even less. However, without procs like Killing Machine or Rime, it’s more like 6-7 seconds. With an Unholy build, you’re right in the middle at 4-5 seconds. Over the course of 5-10 kills, Unholy pulls out ahead with more consistent damage. In fact, when chain pulling Unholy becomes more effective because you can activate Dark Transformation and then your Ghoul really starts kicking out the damage.

Survivability – Frost has some very limited survivability mechanics. Hungering Cold and Lichborne are essentially your only options for escape or self healing as a Frost Death Knight. However, with an Unholy Death Knight Leveling Build, you can still spec into Lichborne, you have your ghoul to eat up some of the damage for you, a lower cooldown on summoning your ghoul if you need to use death pact, and the combination of a movement speed bonus, as well as a speed debuff to your targets with Desecration is more than enough to avoid incoming damage or escape to safety.

Mass Killing – Here is where the Unholy Death Knight Leveling Build really pulls ahead of Frost. As Unholy, you get a powerful boost to your diseases through talents like Epidemic, Contagion, Ebon Plaguebringer, and your mastery, Dreadblade. This boost to your diseases allows you to pick up multiple mobs, and burn them down while kiting them through your desecrated ground, and letting your ghoul finish them off.

When you combine these factors, you have a powerhouse in your Unholy Death Knight Leveling Build. As a second spec, you can always choose Frost, though I would recommend you pick up Blood. With Blood you can pull larger groups or meaner elites and still walk away.

However, the proper talent spec isn’t going to do the job if you don’t know where you’re going. You need to follow an optimized path in order to really get the maximum experience per hour. In order to get to level 85 in the shortest time possible, you need to follow an optimized questing route in order to compliment your Death Knight Leveling Build.

WoW Lockpicking – There’s No Lock You Can’t Open

Lockpicking is a specific skill available to Rogues only. When a Rogue gets to level 16, he is able to train the Pick Lock ability at his class trainer. A Rogue skilled in Lockpicking is able to unlock various footlockers, doors, chests and lockboxes which come as a drop from various mobs.

Is Lockpicking considered to be a real profession?

Lockpicking works similar to other professions. One can train it and skill it up. Once he reaches the max skill in Lockpicking, a Rogue can unlock almost everything.

How to skillup Lockpicking?

There is a simple answer to this. A Rogue is able to skill up only by picking various locks. The leveling itself functions similar to gathering professions. To skillup you should find locks of adequate level that will match the lockpicking level you have at the moment. We can’t really say that Lockpicking is easy to skill up but you will definitely find good assistance from your class trainer who will point you to the areas where you will have the best chance of finding footlockers.

Why only Rogues?

Dark and mysterious, Rogues are the ones who hide in the shadows. Most of their game play is based on sneaking and being in stealth. These characteristics make them suitable for treasure hunt and unlocking the secrets. They are able to sneak to a guarded chest, lock pick it, take all the treasure and disappear into the shadows. Hiding and being invisible are their main advantages.

Special items available for Lockpicking

There is one special piece of armor that can help you with Lockpicking – Dark Leather Gloves. You should ask a Leatheworker to assist you in making these gloves since the give 5 extra points in Lockpicking. These gloves also reduce the chance of failure when it comes to your lockpicking attempts and they add to a better range for your Lockpicking ability.

Alternatives

If it happens that you are not a Rogue or that your Lockpicking skill isn’t high enough to unlock something you want, there will be a few other alternatives.

Find a Blacksmith since he will be able to craft Skeleton keys that are also used to unlock locks. A BS is able to obtain four different key recipes at his BS trainer. With each recipe he will be able to craft two keys.

An Engineer can also prove to be useful with his Seaforium Charges that also have a purpose to open locked doors and chests.

Should I charge for my Lockpicking services?

Charging a fee for Lockpicking service depends on a Rogue player. If you see a Rogue offering his Lockpicking services through the Trade Channel then he might be charging, otherwise he will say that it is for free. Most of the time this won’t be the case since most Rogues do not offer their Lockpicking services publicly.

Approaching the Rogue for his assistance

If you have gathered many lockboxes and you are curious what can you find inside, try to ask any of your guild mates who is skilled in Lockpicking to open them for you. If you can’t find anybody you know to help you out you should approach any Rogue you come across. Make sure to be polite and you ask if he is willing to help you before engaging in a trade.

Items from lockboxes

There are many different items that one can find in various lockboxes, from uncommon items to even rare and epic as well as patterns, plans and schematics.

WoW Skinning – The Masters of Anatomy

Skinning is one of the fastest and easiest professions to level. The first step towards levelling this profession is finding the Skinning trainer. A Skinning trainer can be found in any of the Azeroth’s capital cities and also in some of the major cities all over the world map.

With this profession you can gather leather, hide and scales by skinning mobs you come across. However, you cannot skin all types of mobs and the best types of mobs suitable for skinning are beasts. Note that not all beasts can be skinned either, in example birds.

How to skin a certain mob?

When you grind mobs for skinning, the first thing you should to do is take the loot. After looting a mob you will see a skinning pointer when you rollover the mob with your mouse pointer. If the level of a mob is suitable for you your Skinning skill will raise. As with levelling so it is with Skinning, mobs of a lower level will not skillup your Skinning while the ones of a higher level will.

Skinning equipment

Skinning doesn’t require some particular equipment. However, every skinner needs a skinning knife. Any general goods trader has this knife for sale as well as any or profession related trader who can be found close to the Skinning trainer.

There are also special knives for skinning that have a bonus to give you for your skill. These knives are Finkle’s Skinner (Upper Blackrock Spire) and Zulian Slicer ( Zul’Gurub).

There is also an enchanting formula available – Enchant Gloves – Skinning formula that will give +5 on your Skinning skill and another one that will give +10.

Combination of Leatherworking and Skinning

Leatherworking is one of the primary professions that needs a lot of Skinning products like scales and hides in order to progress. Without the Skinning products, Leatherworking will be completely impossible to skilup. You can either purchase leather on the AH or pair your Leatherworking profession with Skinning.

Leather products are not only a need for Leatherworking profession. Leather is also used with Blacksmithing, Engineering and Tailoring.

Can I profit with Skinning?

Leather is easy to farm and therefore we can make a conclusion that Skinning is profitable. Mobs suitable for skinning can be found everywhere and even if you are just skinning lower level mobs you can still sell them nicely on the Auction House. For players that are higher level it is also quite easy to grind leather of all levels.

Classes suitable for Skinning

When it comes to the choice of professions, each player should choose professions he finds interesting, even though in general, Skinners and Leatherworkers are usually found in classes who can wear leather, such as Rogues or Druids. There are also many Hunters with this combo of professions simply because they are fast grinders.

What is Master of Anatomy?

In the Wrath of the Lich King Skinners were presented with a new ability – Master of Anatomy. This is a very useful ability that will rise together with your skinning skill level and will grant you a nice bonus on the critical strike rating. The maximum of Master of Anatomy ability is +40 on the crit when you have your Skinning profession on its maximum (450).
